Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist as well as a music producer. She was first in her age group to receive an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shakar, a young rising superstar on the Indian Sitar, is Anoushka. She is Ravi Shankar's student and is also his daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the early years of her life traveling between London and New Delhi. Her debut concert was in New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. Later she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is yet to be a mature woman but she has a very amazing career in recording and performing. She regularly accompanies her father on stage, which she has been doing for a number of years. The year 1998 saw her debuted Anourag as her debut solo record. A year later, she dropped the Grammy nomination-winning Live at Carnegie Hall. The stage work she has done is broad as she's appeared in all of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not only limited to music. In 2002, she released a book entitled Bapi The love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which pays special tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she plays the role of a teenage Bharat Natyam dancer. Her career continues to grow and she'll continue to achieve great success in the near future. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent much of her early years in London and Delhi after which she moved to California in the state where she attended the high school. Anoushka Shankar started her musical studies at age nine. A few years later she played her first appearance on the sitar in Delhi during her father's 75th birthday party. The father of Anoushka travelled across the world with her and she also gained a variety of experiences. As she was teenagers, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD music festival. The youngest female to receive the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament to recognize her talent and musicianship in music and the Asian Arts.
