Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighbourhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is an example of a "sleepy" location. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive section that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel grew in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance but the growth rate of her body meant she was able to outgrow her dance partners. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6'1 inch. After I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement of the drama instructor at her high-school that led her to begin acting. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the annual school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she play a character in the annual school production. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years since then, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 plays on both small and large screens drawing the most attention when she was cast as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during Season 1 of the series. She was she was only seen on occasion.
